PASSIONFLOWER

Also known as Maypop & Passiflora, there is growing evidence that this climber with pretty white flowers is an important sleep aid. It works in a number of ways, including being a sedative, hypnotic, antispasmodic and hypotensive. i.e. it lowers blood pressure.

Passiflora is a calming herb used to treat anxiety and insomnia. Its sedative effects are well-documented.

In addition, scientists believe that passionflower works by increasing levels of a chemical called Gamma Aminobutyric Acid (GABA) in the brain. GABA lowers the activity of some brain cells, making you feel more relaxed. Because of its calming effect, Passionflower may make the effects of orthodox sedative medications stronger.
